FAQ’s

Here are some frequently asked questions about the Finance & Investment Society at UW-Madison: If you don’t see your question here, please submit it below.

How many meetings do I need to attend?

FIS members are required to attend four speaker meetings, two BCC events, two social events, and one community service event. We try to schedule ample events to provide numerous opportunities to fulfill these requirements. Please consult the Events Page for further clarification.

What do I wear to the speaker meetings?

Students should stick to the ‘business casual’  dress code. Just make sure to avoid hats, jeans, sweatpants, tennis shoes, etc. Here are some examples of business casual to follow.

How much are the membership dues?

Membership dues are $50 per semester. There are discounts for paying early. Membership dues help subsidize the cost of the Chicago trip, pay for the food before speaker meetings and refreshments at networking events. They also pay for other social events the board chooses for the semester like hockey games, cookouts, ice-cream socials, etc.

Where can I drop off my membership dues?

You can bring your dues to any scheduled meeting where a board member will be in attendance (including BCC events, community service, socials, etc). Ben Hawkins will be the ultimate receiver of the dues, so turn them into him if possible.

You could also get in contact with any board member during non event times.

How do I become a board member?

Elections for board member positions are held at the end of every semester. Members interested in running for a board position give a short speech during the bi-annual Banquet at Gino’s pizza on State St. All board positions are open except for FIS president. The Vice President takes over the responsibility of the President position at the end of the semester.
