About

[Mission Statement]

To increase students’ awareness and appreciation of the finance, investment, and banking industries.

This organization of undergraduates fosters educational opportunities outside the classroom and promotes networking among industry professionals  and students. Activities include speaker events, community service,  and once a semester trip to Chicago.

Speaker Meetings

FIS brings in a variety of speakers from different areas of the financial community to bridge the gap between academics and real world finance. Speaker meetings are held on Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Attendance will be recorded at each meeting. Business casual attire is REQUIRED (This prohibits hats, jeans, sweatpants, tennis shoes, etc). Members must attend a minimum of  5 meetings (Kickoff counts). A combination of 3 Speaker meetings and 2 BBC events OR 4 Speaker Meetings and 1 BBC event can count towards this requirement.

Social Events

Following each speaker meeting, FIS sponsors a social event at a local bar to allow members to get to know each other. Additionally, many speakers also attend the socials following the meetings giving us the opportunity to interact with them outside of a formal setting. We will announce the social events at each meeting, so be there. Other FIS events, that cater to members under 21 have in the past included: cookouts, bowling, and the semi-annual Chicago trip. These events will be announced once dates and times have been determined. We look forward to the good times to come this semester. All members must participate in at least one social event.

Community Service

FIS is always looking for ways to give back to the Madison community. We firmly believe that a good businessperson is also an active member in his or her community. Events aid the community and bring our group close in a fun environment. These events will be announced and emailed once date and times have been determined. All members must participate in at least one community service event.

Chicago Trip

Each semester FIS travels to Chicago to meet with business professionals in the downtown financial district and tour a historical financial institution. This is a great way to further network and get to know other group members. The cost of the trip covers round trip transportation to Chicago, dinner with the group, as well as hotel accommodations for Friday night. There are limited spots available on the bus, so turn in your money right away!

End of the Year Banquet

At the end of each semester, FIS holds a banquet for all members who fulfilled the requirements. The banquet is held at Gino’s on State Street, where pizza and refreshments will be served. If you are interested in running for a board position (which happens every semester for all positions but President) you must complete the requirements and attend the banquet. Members at the banquet will vote on the candidates and the new board for the following semester will be established.

Point Sytem

We have implemented a point system to reward those members that go above and beyond the requirements of the organization showing a deep dedication and interest in FIS.  Each event is associated with a certain amount of points, at the end of the semester those who reach certain brackets of points will be rewarded.   The point system is not replacing the requirements listed above; members are still expected to complete all requirements. The point break down is as follows:

Chicago Trip = 6 pts

Speaker Events = 3 pts

BCC Events = 2 pts

Community Service = 2 pts

Social Events = 1 pt

20-26 pts = Able to run for a Board Position for the following semester and a $5 gift card.

27+ pts = Able to run for a Board Position for the following semester, $10 gift card and entered into a raffle to win an iPod.
